Break Like a Baby - Trailer
+In one or two sentences, describe the main themes present in your game.
This is a co-op multiplayer comedy/survival game where you play as two babies trying to destroy the house in record time before your babysitter catches both of you…
This game is themed to be comedic, but takes gameplay elements from survival, horror, and sandbox games to achieve a silly but challenging game that requires cooperation and teamwork to win!
+Were there difficult moments when developing the game? What led to those difficult moments? What did you learn from it?
None of us had ever worked with multiplayer before, so that was definitely the biggest challenge. It led to us having creative solutions since our normal strategies wouldn’t work (such as adding things before the menu in order to not mess with the online multiplayer coding).
Another challenge was that this game required a lot of tuning, which is also harder than it sounds!
+Were there features you had to remove, and if so, what were they and why were they removed?
Some stretch goals we had were to have: animations for the baby when they’re breaking certain objects, more specific sound effects, and more player costumes to choose from. They were ultimately de-scoped because they were complicated to figure out with online multiplayer and our time was better spent polishing the core gameplay!
+Talk about your teammates! What was everyone's role?
There were a lot of overlapping of roles actually! Alesha and Kimya were the co-producers, making sure we stayed within scope and didn’t overwork ourselves.
For the rest of the team: Dale and Kimya did game design with Dale doing level design, Arnav did online multiplayer programming as well as UI/UX and the occasional visual, Ray did systems/infrastructure programming and audio design, Randy did 2D animation and visual polish, Alesha led the UI/UX design and did work on the visuals, Derek modeled the 3D objects, Kimya made the menu music and also the trailer and itch page, and Lukas did the Babysitter enemy AI programming and shaders!
