Ashes Ashes - Trailer
+In one or two sentences, describe the main themes present in your game.
Ashes Ashes is a psychological horror mystery about memory, perspective, and coming-of-age.
+What was the inspiration of the game?
What made your team decide to make this game specifically?
The story of Ashes Ashes draws heavily from some early works of Stephen King, especially IT and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. I played various detective games while researching for the project, and I referenced Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective frequently to see how the designers balanced clues and hidden information without leading the players too much.
+Were there features you had to remove, and if so, what were they and why were they removed?
During development, there was a cell phone in the game where players managed a text conversation with a character in the story. This worked like a built-in hint system and also allowed me to set time limits on the game. Not too long ago, I replaced the texting mechanic with a radio broadcast with a recorded DJ and music from the 1990s. The radio fulfilled the original intentions of the cell phone and added some much needed atmosphere to the experience. It was a huge change but also a massive improvement to the game.
